# Where the rules come from

State rules, federal conditions and storm planning do different jobs. Here are the sources behind them.

Source notes from October 27, 2026. Rules are described as of October 2026. For an actual visit, the current rule and the responsible professional's confirmation still matter.

A state-board summary explains a rule, not your personal case. A federal extension answers a federal question. It doesn't grant permission under every state's rules. These links let you check the difference.

## What each source answers

The state chapters focus on physicians. We don't apply a medical board's statement to every health profession. HHS explains the location question and the different ways states allow cross-state practice. CDC covers practical storm planning.

## Carry the conditions back to your plan

Return to the [state chapter](/states) with the source's limits in mind: who it covers, what the visit requires and when the rule applies. An exception on a page isn't proof that a particular person qualifies.

The [storm journey](/storm-continuity) is hypothetical. It shows where those checks arise during a move, without claiming that anyone received care. The professionals involved still need to resolve the questions.

The [prescribing page](/controlled-prescriptions) follows the federal end date and state limits. The [state-line page](/state-lines) explains why the place where care happens matters.

We follow this coast in a guide; we don’t provide care, fill prescriptions or sell anything.
